Within logistics there is a certain standard that is the same for all companies and must be adhered to. An example is the so-called GS1 128 barcode (formerly EAN 128). This is based on code 128 and is primarily used for traceability. Unlike Code 128, the GS1 128 barcode can encode various information in one code.
